Tri-Sled’s Director, Ben Goodall, is renowned for his extensive knowledge, experience and skill-base in the specialised field of human powered vehicles (HPVs). Ben’s strong engineering background has laid the foundations for the creation of some the world’s most sophisticated and practical HPVs.

Ben has been working in the HPV field for around twelve years, designing and prototyping all of Tri- Sled’s past and present models. Ben is also a competent public speaker who has shared his knowledge base with a range of audiences over the years, including transport professionals, primary and secondary schools, disability professionals, HPV enthusiasts and HPV sceptics.

Leading Tri-Sled from its establishment in 1995, Ben has trained many successful Australian HPV endurance racing teams. Tri-Sled teams have won all the major Australian HPV races at least once, breaking the 24-hour record on several occasions. At a personal level, Ben has over 15 years of racing experience on mountain bikes and HPVs.

Due to the increasing demand for HPV specialists in Australia, Ben is now offering his expertise as a HPV consultant. Examples of the services Ben can provide include:

• Public presentations on any topic relating to HPVs (such as aerodynamics, speed bikes, applications for disabilities, racing techniques, and the advantages and disadvantages of recumbents)
• Endurance human powered vehicle racing and team building workshops for school and community teams · Consulting reports and feasibility studies on any aspect of HPVs (such as the feasibility of work bikes, velomobiles or pedicabs for particular applications)
• Practical assistance and advice on designing and developing a HPV
• Tailored training programs
• Application of HPV alternatives into commercial environments
• Recumbent tricycle and multi-track vehicle design principles and geometry
• Material selection and construction limitations
• Velomobile design parameters - methods in which high performance HPVs can become realistic transportation alternatives
• Small vehicle aerodynamics and streamlining advice
• Application and modification of HPVs for mobility and rehabilitation purposes
• Possibilities and limitations of human power
